“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11-12) Have you ever asked, “Why the church?” Well here is one stated reason, “equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry.”
This text teaches that all leadership gifts are given by Christ as Lord of the church to “equip” (that is, to mend, prepare, and enable for function) the whole body of the congregation for the spiritual battles before us. Remember, supernatural ministries are not flamboyant displays of platformed of stars who gather followers like satellites. Rather, true supernatural ministry at work in the church begets vital, spiritually functional people throughout the whole church family. The body of Christ task given to us by our Lord and Savior far exceeds the abilities of the individual, but when operating as a body of gifted individuals, then hell itself trembles. The body is to be built up by the mutual efforts of all the members supplying their contribution to the whole.
The call to empower people requires mentoring, training, imparting, and discipling – all aimed at preparing the body for stability and increase. The Great Physician is now making all the necessary adjustments so the church will not be “out of joint”. God is calling you, He is calling me, He is calling the entire Church of Jesus Christ to stand tall … stand strong and start defeating the devil at every turn. Remember, you are not in this battle alone.
You are loved, Pastor Don
