Pastor’s Corner

The following information was received from Bishop Richard Murphy. –  When the Bible talks about authority, it uses the Greek word “exousia” in English, this word is translated as “power.” This can be confusing – because “exousia” is not the same as “dunamis” (the other Greek word often used for “power” which means explosive ability.) “Exousia” does not mean explosive ability. It means legal right, delegated authority, jurisdictional authority. It is the right to act – backed by a higher power. For Example:

John 1:12 – “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.” … The word “power” here is “exousia.” You were given the legal right – the authorized status – to become a child of God.

John 10:18 – Jesus said, “…I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.”  Again – “exousia.” He was declaring His divine authority. His jurisdiction. His right.

Matthew 28:18 Jesus said – “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.” That word is “exousia.”

Authority is not about volume. It’s not about emotion. It’s not about personality. It’s about position. A single police officer may not physically overpower a vehicle, but because of authority, traffic stops. “Exousia” means; heaven backs you. Believers don’t just have “dunamis” (ability). We have “exousia” – delegated authority from Christ Himself.

I will follow this up at a later date with more information as to who you are in Christ Jesus.

You are loved, Pastor Don
