Pastor’s Corner

Last week, Pastor Mike gave me one page that recapped the authority of a believer and this is a recap of the recap: Every believer in Christ has spiritual authority – not because of personal strength, but because of Jesus’ finished work.  Authority means, you don’t have to live dominate by fear, sin, or the enemy.  You live from the position Christ has given you. Here’s what Luke 10:19 tells us: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Where does this authority come from; 1) Jesus’ victories. Through the cross and resurrection, Jesus defeated sin and the powers of darkness.  When you belong to him, you stand in that victory. Col. 2:15 says “He disarmed powers and authorities…” You are not trying to win a victory that hasn’t happened. You are learning to live from the victory Christ already secured. 2) Your identity in Christ. Authority flows from knowing who you are. You are a child of God, accepted and positioned in Him. John 1:12 states “To all who received him… He gave the right to become children of God.” When identity is clear, fear loses its hold. 3) Through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers you to live boldly, pray effectively, and discern what is right. See Acts 1:8: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Authority without dependence on the Spirit becomes effort. Authority with the spirit becomes effective and balanced.

How to walk in Authority: Resisting the enemy. Stand firm in truth and obedience. (James 4:7) Rejecting fear and lies: Not every thought deserves agreement. Stand on God’s Word when fear tries to dominate. Praying with confidence: You approach God as a child, not a stranger (Hebrews 4:16) Living in obedience: Authority grows when your life stays aligned with God. Guarding your mind and heart: What you allow in affects your stand.

You are loved, Pastor Don
