“For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake haven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.” (Haggai 2:6-9)
Haggai’s prophecy speaks expressively to us today as it did to the original hearers. God is asking His people to build a place for His glory to dwell. In Haggai’s day, the building was a physical one. Today “that building” is to take place in our hearts and lives both individually and corporately at the church.
God’s desire is to pour a greater glory on and through His children so that the peoples of the earth will come to Jesus. We need to be asking the Lord to fill His church with such visible glory that the nations of the Earth will come to Jesus. However, as it was in Haggai’s days; for God’s glory to fill the temple, it must be rid of all corruption. And this holds true for today; not only does the building need to clean of all things contrary to God’s will, we need to understand that this cleansing is a corporate task and includes all of us.
The self cleansing is an individual task and can only be accomplished as we yield to God’s authority in our life and place Him and Him alone on the throne of our life.
