And the Merriest Christmas to All!
I was sitting here at my desk thinking about this past year and Christmas time and comparing it against other years. My first thought was this has to be the worst year or at least in heavy competition for the worst. I have decided on “heavy competition.” The worst has to be in 1997 when I was living in Oregon. In April of that year my father passed from this world, after suffering from cancer for several months. Thank God we were there to serve his needs. Then in June, I was advised that my wife had cancer in three places and she had less than six months to live. I quite my ministry and devoted my time being with her and serving her needs as long as I could. Early in the evening of December 7th, she was lifted into the arms off our eternal Savior.
I have to admit, I dreaded the up-coming Christmas Holidays, no parents, no wife and my children all here in Michigan. However as Christmas approached, I came to Michigan for Christmas and over those several days, bought a home in St. Louis, MI and moved here in January. It was a year of closing 15 years of my life an the opening of a new adventure. There is a saying; “if someone gives you lemons, then make lemonade.” Has the last 24 years been all good, no, but the pluses far outweigh the negative. And the Lord God has been with me all the way. So I end with these words, Have the merriest Christmas of all.
You are loved, Pastor Don
