In the Book of James we find these words, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)
A true “born-again” relationship with God finds it cannot find true joy until their heart burns for the poor and those wrestling with hardship. It does not necessarily mean that we run around looking and meeting the need of everyone who crosses our path. Because it is very possible the Devil will continue to put people in our path to assist and thus keep us from assisting those who God sends our way. This is where we need to seek wisdom.
However it does mean that we seek God for the means and then step out in faith in meeting the needs where directed by God’s will. This church has a compassionate vision to provide for the real needs of widows, orphans, the elderly, refugees, the disabled and those vulnerable to exploitation. Many of these areas we are working in and quietly perform in the areas directed by God without fanfare – both here in our community and expanded world-wide.
As important as this is, our number one goal is and will forever be, bringing the lost souls into knowing Jesus as their Lord and Savior and into a working relationship in the service of the King of kings and Lord of lords. The fields are white for the harvest, but the workers are few. The labor is never ending, but the rewards cannot be matched by this world. And the call from heaven is loud and continues.
Your are Loved, Pastor Don
