“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) We have a warning that our spiritual growth may be hindered or halted by three distinct enemies: the Devil, the world, and the flesh. In this verse we are warned how the Devil walks around like a lion. This indicates he uses the same moves as a lion when on the prowl. When the lions hunt, they look for weak, young, isolated, unguarded animals to attack and devour. These are the ones marked for attack.

The Devil’s ultimate agenda is to destroy us, not merely to hurt, maim, or discourage, but to devour and destroy us and we know this because John 10:10 tells us, “The thief (the Devil) does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”

He does this when he gets us to bow to circumstances, pressures, or forces of his evil design, hoping thereby to make us yield to him. May I offer another suggestion and that is for us to practice B.O.W. To overcome these attacks look to one who defeated to Devil, let us Believe – Obey and Worship and this will bring new growth in Jesus and it will bring the same ability, or stand, against the Devil.

“Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1st Peter 5:9-11)

You are loved, Pastor Don
